Well, it's a fantasy game, you know? I just slew an Avicara...didn't see any of those in real life either.

Some women wear skimpy clothing in real life, too. I don't think the majority of adult women wearing mini skirts do that to attract preteen males... I guess they do it to look good. Maybe that's why there is skimpy clothing in the game, too.

Frankly, if it helps to drive the prude zealots off the game I'd consider that a good thing. The argument that you don't have to wear this armor if you don't like it is perfectly valid. And if your moral standards do not allow you to look at women in sexy clothing I'd suggest playing chess instead.

It is just downright funny to get called preteen and stuff like that just because i seriously don't understand the problem about that. Sleet is right, just leave the building and you'll see a lot... a LOT more of even shorter dresses.
You're probably bowing your head so you don't have to see them?

Sad way to discuss folks... really sad. Calling names just proves you got no real point to make. Tell me... if this armor is oh so offensive to the female players. Tell me why my girlfriend is wearing the 15 k Aeromancer on her female Elementalist and actually does like it a lot? You know, after all you could say that armor is just as bad as the druids as it increases the breast size. Ooops, guess just by mentioning that i offended some persons Oo

So all the female characters are upstyled fashion characters. Just look at them. Perfect body, everything at the right places... beautiful faces with ravenlong hair... is that sexistic too then? You really think so? Have a look at the males then. With all their muscles, good looks and awesome expressions. Those are just "beauties" too. At least my girlfriend says so.

Seriously, you need to wake up. Well maybe it is a problem about location and education but over here in europe, especially in places like the Netherlands, Austria, germany and france. The females are absolutely liberated about their body. They know that it is natural and they know that every body (word divided on purpose) is beautiful.
It doesn't offend them to see another female person running around semi naked. Instead they feel jealous and might try the same next time. They like dressing up all sexy and it is totally natural to do. And thats not a problem about religion as my best friend is a downright honest christian and visiting church every weekend. Yet still she is dressing sexy all the week.

Thats probably not a problem about digital content, it is a problem about emancipation and education. Not even religion.

FTR, I wasn't calling anyone a preteen. But you people read what you want.
It's obvious why your girlfriend wears the 15k Aero armor (I assume its also an ex-po-say armor). It's because she wants to look sexy. And its fantasy, so why the hell not?
The problem, and this is one of the biggest reasons you preteens don't get it, is that dressing that way in real life is a very quick way to lose respect and credibility. It has nothing to do with the fact that looking at woman dressed sexily gives me a uncontrolable hard on, which in turn causes me great embarassment. As so many of you have pointed out.
The beach is an entirely different situation. It's a place where people are EXPECTED to dress a little skimpier, and thus, unlike in almost every other situation, its okay to go topless (for men) or reveal a little cleavage (for women). Or in the case of nude beaches, its okay to not wear anything at all.

Which brings me back to the point, which has been rehashed for quite some time. The armor serves no other purpose than to turn on male preteens.

Imagine for a moment that your mom is incredibly sexy. Do you think she would go to work, or go shopping in such an outfit? Even though (remember) she is incredibly sexy? If your answer is yes, you most likely have more problems than Michael Jackson. Now you might say that work/shopping != fantasy. Which is true. But this brings up the reason why the fact that you can simply choose not to wear it is moot. ANet spent an ton of effort into creating the armor which has only one purpose. By doing so, they've rallied to their base (male preteens) at the expense of their more mature audience. At the expense of those who understand that chatting it up with random strangers does not constitute social interaction. And at the expense of those who understand the importance of respect and credibility in the real world.

One last thing: some of you don't understand the difference between a game element being unrealistic, and something due to suspension of disbelief. It is a good thing to look up, even if you don't agree with me.

correct me if I am wrong but I believe that a lot of those female warriors and rangers running around in gladiator and druid skimpy (delightfully beautiful) armor are played by real life girls as well. Now maybe you should hang out at a mall sometime... I'll be honest and say I see girls all the time dressed just as sexy in real life as in pixeled. Ok sure the bodies are not that perfect 10... so let me guess... next your going to be asking for weight change pertition to make characters fat so all the "preteens" will get a realistic grasp on life. Correct me again if I am wrong... but trying to get a realistic grasp on life from a video game is not only pointless... it can be very dangerious.

I'm from canada, born and raised, lived there for 27 years. Got married and moved. My wife spends a lot of non beach days during the summer dressed in shorts, tank/sports bra so really... not that much different from these rangers and druids. She's 27 also. Am I "preteen" cause I like that? Hey did you know its ok to be 18 and topless in Ontario if your a woman? Of course only in a proper setting... such as in any place that does not require shirts. Any place a man can go without a shirt, so can a woman... you'd be surprised at how many did... some who did... shouldn't have...

Have you watched those daytime talk shows? "My mom dresses like a hooker, please make her stop!" If not... watch one, open your eyes and realise its not just beach goers dressing in skimpy clothes...

Its you I think that needs a better grasp on reality.

Although I like the bikini top and bare feet, the shoulder pads and tube belt are kind of unattractive.

true.

what women don't completely realize (though some might, i congratulate them for their open-mindness) is that men are aroused by SIGHT. women are aroused by talk and touch. that's the reason why they dress this way. that, and that some women (NOT all.) believe that this is a good way to attract other men.

sorry if i offended any female gamers here.

No one is saying to get a realistic grasp of life from a video game. However, I will say that it is dangerous to substitute a video game for real life.

I also have no problem with NPC's looking "perfect" or better than normal, or whatever. After all, it is fantasy.

Exactly. As I've said, these people have problems.

And so do most girls I know. Heck, during my younger days, my sisters used to go around with only their underwears and bras in the house, and I really had no problem with that at all. But let me re-iterrate in a slightly different language: there is a large difference between dressing skimpy and dressing sl*tty. If the norm in your country is for women to go around topless, than more power to them. (In fact, I would have to agree with feminists that the bra is a symbol of oppression.) It is all very situational and contextual. This type of game content is advertising a hurtful messege against women, whether they percieve it or not. It is all very subliminal and subtle.

...traversc...you really, really need to get a grip.

If you think the message is confined to females, take a look at pretty much every male character. "Oh, my character in GW is really muscular, so I should be really muscular too!" Sound stupid? That's because it is. A game isn't going to start making women dressing like game characters. Just like playing San Andreas isn't going to make you go on a shooting spree.

How about a petition to actually update the goddam 15k tormentors set! At least the 15k druids is updated, I will agree though that it's a little ridiculous, but it's growing on me now that I've seen some cool dye combinations.

As I've said, I have no qualms with PCs looking "sexy." The drive to look beautiful is natural. And this is fantasy. If anything, this is a COMPLETELY different discussion.

I never said it would. It's a matter of perception.

It's funny that those of you insulting me off the wall can't bring yourselves to make a decent argument.
